Girl group wins grand prize in JBL songwriting contest

Barbie Almalbis, 1st prize winner Pocket Rocket's Almira Ynzon, Pamela Rodriguez and Jerah Cuaresma, 2nd prize winner Paul Letigio, Marketing Communications Manager Tia de Guzman and JBL Eon CEO Jings de Guzman (rightmost).


Trio girl group Pocket Rocket won the grand prize of a JBL Eon One professional audio system when they bested 66 contestants in the recent songwriting contest that aimed to discover fresh talents in the music scene.


Pocket Rocket is composed of Almira Ynzon (bass), Pamela Rodriguez (guitar) and Jerah Cuaresma (drums).


The group’s song, Pagasa, based on a real-life experience, revolves around continuing to hope when all seems lost.


The second prize went to Paul Letigio, who won an AKG k167 audio system for his song Pusta (Gamble). It inspires listeners to face life’s challenges head on.

The contest was launched in Audiophile Pioneer, where singer-songwriter and Audiophile ambassador Barbie Almalbis performed before the crowd.


Each contestant recorded his/her song in any of Audiophile’s branches in e SM North Edsa, Festival Mall Alabang, and Market Market, Taguig City.


A contestant was to record in any of their three branches, Audiophile SM North Edsa Mall, Audiophile Festival Mall Alabang, and Audiophile Market Market Taguig City.


Barbie, Gary de Guzman and Chislon Bolanos of Ibanez Guitars, along with a representative from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) served as judges.


Winners also got trophies.
